Why FMT?

Canine FMT (Fecal Microbiota Transplant) treatment involves transferring fecal matter from a healthy donor dog to a recipient dog's gastrointestinal tract to restore the balance of healthy gut bacteria. Here are some of the main benefits of canine FMT treatment:

Renowned Integrative Veterinarian Dr. Judy Morgan shares her expert insights on Legacy Biome FMT—why it stands out, who it helps, the conditions it addresses, and her recommended dosing guidelines.

01

Treats digestive disorders

Canine FMT treatment has been shown to be effective in treating various digestive disorders in dogs, such as inflammatory bowel disease, chronic diarrhea, and Clostridium difficile infection.

02

Improves gut health

The gut microbiota plays a crucial role in maintaining overall health in dogs. Canine FMT treatment helps improve the balance of gut bacteria, which can lead to better digestion, absorption of nutrients, and a stronger immune system.

03

Reduces antibiotic use

Antibiotics can disrupt the balance of healthy gut bacteria in dogs, leading to various health issues. Canine FMT treatment can help reduce the need for antibiotics, thereby minimizing the risk of antibiotic-associated side effects.

04

Cost-effective

Canine FMT treatment is a relatively cost-effective treatment option compared to other treatments for digestive disorders in dogs, such as long-term antibiotic therapy or surgery.

05

Safe and minimally invasive

Canine FMT treatment is a safe and minimally invasive procedure that can be performed on an outpatient basis, with few reported side effects.

FMT Vs Probiotics

Fecal microbiome treatment (FMT) treatment is a process that involves transferring the microbiome from a healthy Dog donor to a recipient Dog's gastrointestinal tract to restore a healthy balance of gut bacteria. With FMT, the recipient Dog is able to colonize the healthy microbiome within their own gut providing protection against disease progression and reversing many symptoms. Probiotics, on the other hand, are ingested to improve gut health and treat certain conditions but as they don't colonize the gut, they need to be taken daily to maintain the health benefits.

The benefits of FMT over probiotics include:

Greater efficacy

FMT has been shown to be more effective than probiotics in treating certain conditions such as recurrent Clostridioides difficile infections (CDI), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Long-lasting effects

FMT has been shown to have long-lasting effects, with some studies suggesting that a single treatment can lead to sustained improvements in gut health. Probiotics, on the other hand, may require ongoing supplementation to maintain their benefits.

Potential for treating a wider range of conditions

While probiotics are primarily used to treat gut-related conditions, FMT has shown promise in treating a wider range of conditions such as metabolic disorders, neurological disorders, and autoimmune diseases.

Happy Dog

My dog had surgery two months ago and was put on antibiotics for two weeks at that time. I just wanted to get his gut back to a healthy place. After researching all different probiotics this company seamed to be the right fit. It just made sense to me. My dog had diarrhea after I got him home from the surgery. I saw improvement in about a week after giving him this product. I'm on my 2nd bottle and my dog is back to normal with his bowel movements. I couldn't be more satisfied with the results.

Fantastic product

I have three show type springer spaniels, and they all came down with horrific mucassy and projectile diarrhoea. After several visits to the vets and thousands of pounds later, still no firm diagnosis. I knew in my gut it was bacteria related, but vets kept fobbing me off saying they’d done tests and everything was clear. I then came across biome testing, so sent off a sample and the result came back positive for clostridium perfringens. I passed the findings onto my vet and they administered 10 days antibiotics. After the 10days finished the problem still wasn’t fully resolved, and I didn’t want to be in a cycle of constant antibiotic use, as I was concerned of the damage it would do to their micro biome. That’s when I came across legacy biome and I reached out to them and they were so helpful. Dr Conor Brady also recommended FMT so I thought I’d give it ago. I can honestly say it’s been amazing for my three. The diarrhoea cleared up within a few days and we’re on week 3. I wish I’d come across FMT sooner rather than antibiotics.

They’ve been an excellent company to deal with even with the time difference as I’m in the uk. They’ve always responded well to my emails, so I’d highly recommend.

so far, so good!

I started FMT for my dog about a month ago, hoping to improve his gut health and overall well-being after some persistent digestive issues and allergy issues. So far, I’ve noticed a positive difference, especially in his stool consistency. While it's still early in the process to notice a change in the scratching/itching, I’m optimistic about the long-term benefits. No negative side effects so far, and he seems to be tolerating it well. Looking forward to seeing continued improvements as we go!

Better than probiotics

This helps my dog’s microbiome more than any probiotic I’ve ever tried (and I’ve tried a lot!).
