Dosing Guide

Approaches to dosing FMT.

When choosing FMT , it’s so critical to also understand the importance of a healthy, nutritional diet. Once your dog or cat’s gut health is restored, ensure your pet’s diet continues to be nutritional and healthy to facilitate them receiving all the benefits.

Approaches to dosing FMT.

STEP ONE

Determine what you're treating.

Your ideal dosing length depends on what you're addressing. Here's how our clients typically approach the two most common scenarios.

MILD TO MODERATE

Everyday digestive issues.

Typical course: 1–3 months

Many of our clients have reported that when addressing mild to moderate conditions like diarrhea, itchy skin, bloating and gas, bad breath, other digestive disorders, and past use of antibiotics, dosing for 1-3 months with our FMT has resulted in desired outcomes.

MORE SEVERE

Complex or chronic conditions.

Typical course: 6+ months

Many of our clients executed more robust dosing protocols, often involving up to 6 months or more of FMT with other concomitant treatment additions. Consulting with healthcare specialists is a good idea.

STEP BY STEP

The 4R protocol.

Most pet health issues start in the gut. The 4R Protocol is a step-by-step approach to removing what's causing harm, rebuilding your pet's microbiome, and keeping them healthy for life.

1

Remove the things harming your pet's gut.

Cut out unnecessary antibiotics, chemical flea and tick treatments, pesticides, and processed foods. If your pet has ongoing issues, talk to a holistic or integrative vet about testing for specific food sensitivities or underlying infections.

2

Replace the diet.

Ditch the kibble, even the "hydrolyzed prescription" kind. It is heavily processed, pro-inflammatory, and loaded with starchy fillers that disrupt the gut microbiome. Switch to a diet that supports healing and gut health: raw or gently cooked proteins, healthy fats, and nutrient-dense vegetables.

3

Restore the gut with Legacy Biome Healthy Gut Restore.

Standard probiotics contain a handful of bacterial strains. FMT delivers thousands of beneficial microbes from a complete, healthy gut ecosystem, which is why vets turn to it when probiotics aren't enough. Based on the severity of your pet's symptoms, plan for 2-3 months of consistent FMT use for a full gut reset, especially if your pet has had antibiotics. If needed, you may also support gut lining repair with targeted supplements.

4

Rebalance your pet's lifestyle for the long term.

Stick with a raw or whole food diet, minimize chemical exposure, keep up with regular exercise, and consider ongoing gut support through a Legacy Biome subscription to maintain your pet's microbial balance.

Gut health is only half the equation.

Once your pet's gut health is restored, keeping their diet nutritional and healthy is what lets them receive the full benefits of FMT. Restore, then maintain.
